The range of a full tank of Adblue is ~10,000 miles, depending on how you drive. The reason for the 1500 miles is that if the car runs out of Adblue the engine is prevented from starting. A warning starts at 1500 miles and counts down to zero. This gives you plenty of time to refill the Adblue. You do not need to reset the counter.
A full tank of Adblue should last 10-12,000 miles. The Adblue tank has a 17L capacity. You must add a minimum of just under 4 litres for the system to register. It may not register immediately but 9L should be enough. If it doesn't register within 2 or 3 days there may be an issue.
ok. updating: since C4 Picasso II line and C4 Cactus (September 2014+) share same urea tank I dived deeper into autodata and other documents. there seems to be a change in the tank recently. if your (1.6Hdi) cactus is using old AdBlue tank (part 9808378080) :my suspicion is it is doomed to fail prematurely. AdBlue has announced that they will not offer a warranty if the operator has failed to use genuine AdBlue, or if the substance has been diluted. Manufacturers of the trucks will not honour any warranty on the system if there are any signs of contamination in the tank, this can cost over £5000 to replace the system. The farms I work at have huge tanks filled by tankers with Adblue to Iso22241. The local motor factors where I buy my Adblue (£14 for 18 litres) only sell Adblue to Iso22241 and were not aware of any other type when I checked it was the right stuff when I first purchased it. nwF2.
